WHO ARE WE?
Jane.L.Green - Director
Jane has over 20 years’ experience with the BBC in all its genres – television director, radio reporter and new media producer. As a director of the 1, 6, and 9 O’Clock News, and World Service television news programmes, Jane worked daily with images for news and current affairs.
In regional television news and political programmes, she did the same as both studio and single camera director, as well as working with graphics for news output. She also worked as a director on many BBC1 and BBC2 lifestyle and entertainment programmes.
As a single mum, Jane took a career break and went back to college to study the internet, and became hooked. She then secured a new position working as New Media Producer for 3 of the BBC’s local websites, producing news and features, for over 6 years.
Jane has a BA (Hons) degree from Manchester Polytechnic in Design for Communication Media and is a member of British Mensa.
Matt Perry - Technical Director
Matt is director of Net Marketeers Ltd., a highly successful Midlands based company specialising in web based software development.
His expert skills come into force with the creation and running of Picture Nation, and works alongside Jane to create and maintain an images website that is easy for clients to use and navigate, using new technology to bring you a state of the art website.
Matt drives the technology requirements of the business. He is adept at seeking best practice in the IT/business field, developing and implementing innovative and high performing websites for the commercial sector.
Matt recognised the growing need for affordable, ready to use images in the website business, and joined with Jane to design and build Picture Nation. He brings key skills to the business, along with a flair for innovation and enterprise.
Matt was educated at Leicester and Staffordshire Universities.
Together, Jane and Matt have a unique combination of skills and experience that have enabled Picture Nation to come to life, offering a digital picture service based in the UK that is unique, and available and affordable to everyone.
Chris Birch - Director
Chris Birch is Professor of Enterprise Development and Commercial Director at Staffordshire University. Picture Nation is delighted to have him onboard as a director of the company.
Chris is responsible for research, enterprise, knowledge and technology transfer and employer engagement at Staffordshire University. He has built a national and European reputation relating to the importance of graduate entrepreneurship in the context of the knowledge and information society.
He sits on many regional and national committees, and believes that universities have to re-think their role and modus operandi when seen in the context of globalisation, the increasing relative economic importance of small businesses and technology driven change.
The economies of all developed nations require (necessitate) more, high growth, high value-added graduate start-up businesses and Professor Birch believes that targeted interventions can, and must be made to stimulate the enterprise potential that exists within the e-bay generation.
Elizabeth Taylor - Picture Desk Supervisor
Elizabeth Taylor ( we know!!! ) Elizabeth's been into photography since the age of 11, starting with good old film, and then in 2000, she discovered digital and hasn't looked back since. She uses a Nikon D70. 'It's such a flexible medium', she says. 'If you don't like something you can just delete it and have another go. I love that'. She's as interested in the post-processing of images as in the actual taking of the picture. 'My other big interest is painting, and I'd love to find a way of combining the two mediums'. Elizabeth's favourite photography subject is landscapes.
Phil Calvert - Picture Desk
Phil has been taking photographs since the days of polaroid Cameras! A fully trained Graphic Reproduction Artist and image retoucher, Phil studied Photography and the Printing process at Stoke - on - Trent Polytechnic back in the 1970's where he gained a City and Guilds in the subject.
A keen interest in original art led to attending Newcastle College of Further Education studying Art and Architecture before embarking on a career in Design and Graphics.
Since the dawn of digital photography his camera goes everywhere with him (well almost everywhere!) and his philosophy is to take as many photographs as you can because one day, someone out there, maybe in outer space, will require an image to study life on our planet!
