How much does it cost?

Nothing. It doesn't cost Sellers anything to register or to put your images on PN. It's free.

Do I need to sign a contract?

Nope. When you register we ask that you read and agree to our Seller's Terms and Conditions, and that's it.

How and when do I get my commission?

Details about this, and more about selling your photos is in the Seller's Pack which can be read by anyone without having to register first.

Can I sell my pictures on other image libraries if I sell them on yours?

Sure

If I edit my text on an already approved picture why does it have to go through the approval process again?

Picture Nation checks every single image that goes live on its site. You are free to update/edit your text for your images, but we need to make sure then that there are no spelling mistakes or inappropriate words added. But any images that are waiting for re-approval are fast tracked and we aim to process them within 24 hours in a working week.

Why can't I be told who has bought my pictures?

Well, it should be obvious really, but here goes....if we put buyer and seller in touch with each other then what would be the point in us spending all our time and money running PN? We'd be running a free introduction service for photographers. We also have a duty to keep client information confidential - buyers and sellers.

Why haven't there been many sales on the site?

We are very, very new as far as image libraries go. We launched in November 2006 and have a dedicated small team that is growing and training on an ongoing basis. We check every single image that comes into PN and that takes time but means that buyers using PN can have confidence in the service we provide and in your images and descriptions. Sales have started and continue to grow as marketing kicks in. Things are looking good.

Why is my picture web res only when I submitted a large file?

We view every image in detail at 100% and do full colour test prints on those we have a question mark about. If we think a buyer could have an issue with the quality of an image they buy at print res, then we will select it to be available from Picture Nation at web res only.

Why've you rejected an image of mine that another library accepted?

Picture Nation checks every single image before making it live. Not all image libraries do. We not only check the image, but the information you send with the picture, the spellings and the relevance of the tags.
Picture Nation serves the commercial, editorial, educational and private markets with all royalty-free sales. These genres all have different issues to deal with regarding copyrights and permissions and we consider them all when processing images sent in.
Different libraries have different criteria, which is why it's a good idea to submit your images to more than one.

Do you accept scans?

Only if they're absolutely perfect.
It's disheartening for us, as well as you, when we get great subject content but the scan is naff. You'd be amazed how many scans we get with hairs across the picture, finger prints, and smears. It's a shame. If you are going to go to the trouble of scanning your images and submitting them, then you must make sure they are scanned at the highest possible quality.

Why is your web res commission so low?

Our commission rates across the board are in fact the highest around for similar image libraries. Web res subscriptions are aimed at the high volume sales website market as well as the education market. You can also make £2 commission for a single web res sale, and up to £30 commission for a high res sale of the same image. A lot of our members are seeing high res commissions going into their accounts. Single purchase sales are the most popular so far.

I already have a model release form - can I send you that?

If you already have your own release forms to accompany your images then you can send us a copy of your own - as long as it has all the information on it that we require. You can view and download our release forms from the link available in your Seller's Pack.

Can I send in a CD ROM of my pictures?

No. Sorry. We are purely an online operation and images submitted to PN must be uploaded by the copyright holder.

How many times can I use the pictures?

As many times as you like*.

What sizes are the pictures?

Web res - Up to 400 x 400 pixels
Medium res - Up to 2000 x 2000 pixels
High res - Up to 6000 x 6000 pixels

Who can use these pictures?

Anyone. Our pictures are useful snapshots to illustrate anything from website pages to college print outs. They're suitable for newspapers, magazines, presentations, leaflets, design, schools, interactive whiteboards, colleges, dissertations, brochures, teaching tools, screensavers, books, etc.

Why can I only download 25 web res images per day?

We provide excellent value for money. We strive to maintain the highest standards in the service we offer you. Demand for our service is high, and allowing people to download as many images as they like at any time could jeopardise the smooth running of that service.

How do I search for an image I want?

You can either use our Search Photo facility by typing in relevant words in the search box and then clicking on green looking glass icon, or if you want to get an idea for a picture, try browsing through our categories in the left hand nav. If you're looking for a red rose the type in 'red rose'.

What if you don't have an image I need?

You can send in a request for a particular type of image and we can post the request for our members to see it. They may have such an image in their stock or can get one easily for you and upload it to PN. If they do, we'll let you know.

Help! I need this picture.
We are adding to our stock of images every week. If we don't have the image you want now then there's a very good chance we'll have it in the near future. If you'd like to e-mail us with your image request we can put it on our priority list of pictures to get.

Why do some pictures say 'Not Model Released?

If you want to use a picture to help sell a service or product or business, then pictures with identifiable people in them or featuring property have to be 'released' by the model or owner in order for you to use them for commercial purposes. Crowd shots and wide street scenes are usually exception to this. If you're not sure about the rights regarding your image end use then you should consult an IP or copyright lawyer.

Details about what Picture Nation allows you to do with the pictures are available in the Buyers' Terms and Conditions.

All PN images can be used for educational / editorial / information / and personal use.

How do I pay?

Please see the How to pay page

What if I don't have a credit/debit card?

You can only purchase and download Picture Nation images with a credit card. Schools' payment option details are in the Picture Nation for Schools section.

Can I buy just one web resolution picture?

Yes you can. It is better value to subscribe to web resolution images but you can pay to download just one web resolution image if you like. One web resolution image only is GBP £5, but a subscription would allow you to buy web res images from as little as 28p. Medium and high resolution pictures are paid for individually anyway and are not currently available as subscriptions.

Why can't I download a picture?

Have you registered, have you paid, are your details correct? If you've checked all these and still can't download then contact us through the Contact Us/Feedback form.

Why can't I download a child image?

We have a special policy regarding use of all our child images. We care greatly about protecting the children's images from abuse or mis-use. Even if you have registered and paid for access to images, you will be required to fill in a separate, brief, online form if you want to view and download some of our child images.
We want to know why you want the picture and where you're going to use it, before we allow you to download the image. We know that responsible clients will support our child picture policy, and be patient enough to follow our procedure. We reserve the right to refuse permission to download. All our child pictures are cleared for use by the parents/guardians.

Do I own the pictures once I've paid for them?

No. All the images on Picture Nation are the copyright of the photographer, unless otherwise stated, and remain the copyright of the photographer after you've paid for them and downloaded them.

Can I buy the copyright of a Picture Nation image?

We can discuss it. Contact us.

Do you sell CD ROMS of your images?

No. Our images are only available digitally online.

Why do the images I view have a watermark on them?

The watermark is to prevent people downloading an image without payment. Once you have registered and paid for an image, you will be able to download the relevant sized image without a watermark.

Are Promethean interactive whiteboards the only whiteboards your images can be used for?

No - you should be able to use PN images with any whiteboard. We carry the Promethean kitemark because our website has been tested by Promethean and passed their rigorous tests.
